Welcome to the Social Map. This site provides access to an innovative map that plots South African development funding and socio-economic data on a Google Earth platform.

The Social Map was launched in November 2008 by three partner organisations: Trialogue, AfricaScope and The Business Trust. The vision for this pioneering tool is a comprehensive, valuable database of South African development expenditure that facilitates more effective decision-making and collaboration.

The map allows you to view development projects around South Africa as well as poverty and other socio-economic indicators. You can benchmark corporate social investment (CSI) activities, identify funding gaps in particular areas and find opportunities to partner or co-fund. You can also determine the areas of greatest need by viewing population and poverty data at a local municipality level alongside aggregate funding data.
